Hesn's filter has to see the domains your device asks for while it's on — that's how it decides what to block. This page is about who holds that, and the promises around it.
Why it exists
Every tool aimed at this problem has the same hole: it works right up until the moment you want it not to. Screen Time, deleting apps, a free DNS filter — a determined person walks around all of it in a minute. And almost nothing is built for a Muslim household: not the categories, not the language, and not the question of who ends up holding the record of what your family looked up.
Hesn doesn't pretend to be an unbreakable wall. It's built around the one thing that has always worked: someone you chose knowing the moment the wall comes down. Willpower plus an audience beats willpower alone.
Who's behind it
Hesn is built and run by one person — Youssef Elwakil, a software developer in Melbourne, Australia. I previously built Hasalam, a marketplace for Muslim services.
One person, named, is deliberate. If Hesn ever mishandles your data, you know exactly whose name is on it. Hesn is a sole-trader business — Youssef Elwakil, trading as Hesn, based in Victoria, Australia.
What I promise about your data
- Never sold, never shared for advertising. No ad network, no third-party trackers, no data broker. The only person who sees your activity is the accountability partner you chose.
- The blocklist is public. Every category each level blocks is listed on the site and in the terms — no secret list, no silent additions.
- DNS records are kept 90 days, then deleted or reduced to statistics that can't identify anyone.
- Your data is deletable. Delete your account in the app and it's gone — account, devices, filter configuration, history. Or email and ask.
- A breach gets disclosed fast. If your data is exposed, I'll tell you and the regulator within 72 hours of confirming it — not "as required", faster.
