Questions
How does the free trial work?
The Individual plan gives you the full filter free for 7 days. We ask for a card at sign-up but don't charge it — on day 8 your plan starts and the first payment is taken. Cancel any time before then from your account page and you're never charged. (The Family plan doesn't have a trial — it bills straight away, with the 30-day refund below.)
When does billing start?
Individual: after the 7-day trial, on the date shown in your account. Family: as soon as you subscribe. Either way it renews each month or year until you cancel, and cancelling leaves filtering on until the end of the period you've paid for.
Monthly or annual?
Annual is two months free — $48/yr instead of $60 for Individual, $96/yr instead of $120 for Family — and it's one less thing to think about each month. Same features either way.
Can I change plans later?
Yes — up or down, any time. The change takes effect at your next billing date.
What happens if I cancel?
Cancel during the Individual trial and filtering stops on the trial end date with nothing charged. Otherwise filtering keeps working until the end of the period you've already paid for, then stops. Either way your accountability partner is told that you cancelled — that's part of the point of choosing one.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. If Hesn isn't working for you in the first 30 days, email us and we'll refund it, no argument.
Is there a hardship or student rate?
Yes. Nobody should be priced out of this over money — email us and we'll sort something.
Why isn't there a free version?
A filter that earns from ads or from selling data has the wrong incentives built in. A paid subscription keeps us working for the person paying.
What does the Family plan cover?
Up to six iPhones (Android is planned). One person is the shared accountability partner for the household, and each person can be on a different strictness tier.
What if the price changes later?
You keep the rate you signed up at, for as long as your subscription stays active.
